Details: The Callao Harvest Fiesta Committee announces Jennifer Wilson in a free concert at the Fiesta grounds in Callao, on Saturday, September 11th. This is a rescheduled date, from the rain out on June 12th. In the event of rain, the event will be held at an alternate location-Callao C-8 School. The September 11th events will begin with opening ceremonies at 5:15 p.m. Attendance drawings, performances by Ciera Thompson and crowd participation games will take place throughout the night. Event: Hunter Education Course
Location: Monroe City, MO - Mark Twain Lake Project Office
Details: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will sponsor a Hunter Education Course on Friday, September 17th from 5–9pm and Saturday, September 18th from 8am-3pm at the Mark Twain Lake Project Office, 14 miles south of Monroe City. Class registration begins on September 7th. Included in the training will be gun safety, firearm and ammunition information, the role of the hunter, wildlife management, ethics and hunter preparedness. Those successfully completing the course will receive a Missouri Conservation Heritage Card from the Missouri Department of Conservation. This certification is mandatory for anyone born on or after January 1, 1967, wishing to hunt turkey or deer and anyone participating in special hunts on Corps of Engineer project lands. The class is offered to anyone eleven years or older. Participants should bring to class on Friday their social security number, hunting/fishing license, youth tags, and/or heritage card, and on Saturday bring their lunch. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children during the registration process that occurs on September 17th to insure the registration forms are completed accurately. Class size will be restricted to twenty. On Saturday, September 18th, the hunter education class will end at approximately 3pm. A voluntary shooting exercise will be conducted at the shooting range for participants of the Hunter Education class at approximately 3pm. Students wanting to participate with the shooting exercise must successfully complete the class, and arrange for their own transportation from the Mark Twain Lake Project Office to the Shooting Range. No transportation will be provided. Missouri Department of Conservation will provide firearms and ammunition. Hunter education training is a form of life insurance. This type of training decreases the chance of being injured in a hunting-related accident as it serves to educate those who will take to the woods. In fact, seldom is anyone injured who has participated in these classes. Details: The AMC Auxiliary Auction will be held on Saturday, September 18th at the Mexico Elks Lodge. The silent auction begins at 5:30pm followed by dinner. The live auction will begin at 8pm. The cost to attend is $20 per ticket. Tickets are available at the Volunteer Office at AMC. Auxiliary members are accepting donations for the auction & selling ads for the program booklet. If you need additional information, please contact Volunteer services at 573-582-8283. Proceeds will fund an Aquatic Therapy Pool for Rehabilitation Services.

Event: Larry Welch's Babes for a Cure Softball Game
Location: Macon, MO - Don Schelle Fields
Details: The Macon Police & Fire Personnel Relay for Life Team are putting together their annual Larry Welch's Babes for a Cure Softball Game. This is a game where all the male players dress up like ladies to play 4 hilarious innings of softball. To add to the excitement, they must use a purse to catch the ball and rules change every inning to make it even more fun! Larry Welch loved this game and participated until he lost his battle with cancer. He was their "bearded lady" and loved to play in the game. Whether you knew Larry or not, it's a great way to pay tribute to him and his family as well as many others that have battled cancer. Mark your calendars to attend this year's event on September 18th, at 6pm at the Don Schelle Fields near the YMCA. Gate admission is: age 3-adults $3 & under 3 years are free. Concession Stand will be open. All net proceeds will benefit the Relay For Life of Macon County.

Event: "Give Cancer the Boot" Celebration
Location: Audrain County 4H Center, Mexico
Details: The J.B. & Greeta B. Arthur Cancer Center is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Cancer Screening Program implemented by Dr. Ned Rodes. Tickets are $50 per person and include appetizers, chuck wagon dinner, old time mercantile with silent auction, saloon, casino with a starter set of gambling chip (for entertainment purposes only) and a live band. Tickets can be purchased at the Cancer Center or the AMC Gift Shop. Contact Paula Lierheimer (582-8823) or Mary Thomas (581-4533) for questions. Proceeds help fund the digital mammography project.
